MISSION STATEMENT The mission of the Miramar High School Choral Program is to provide the highest quality choral music education and experience at the secondary level. It is the mission of the ensemble to teach members of the community about the joy of music as it relates to the human spirit. PRINCIPLES
1. To prepare competitive upperclassmen for successful admission into nationally recognized post-secondary institutional degree programs; 2. To provide an awareness of the cultural and historical aspects of various forms of music; 3. To encourage scholarly activity including research and creative endeavors from faculty and students; 4. To promote character and leadership development in all members; 5. To provide for the Miramar community by making service available to businesses and the general public through the unique professional expertise of the performing ensembles HISTORY The M.H.S. Chorus has been a part of Miramar High School since its inception in 1970. Miramar High School was originally housed on the campus of McArthur High School until construction was completed in the Spring of 1970. The M.H.S. Chorus was born! There have been five chorus directors since the beginning of the M.H.S. Chorus: 1. Ralph Smith 1970- 1975 2. Dee Mercer 1975- 1976 3. June Capezza 1976- 1996 4. Edgar Rubio - 1996- 2000 5. Christopher Jordan - 2000- present Each of them has had a great impact on the success of the choir. Our current director, Mr. Christopher Jordan has seen great success in the restructuring of the M.H.S. Chorus. Under the direction of Mr. Jordan, the choir has made a positive name for themselves and Miramar High School while traveling throughout the state of Florida, singing at various churches and festivals. Some of our most memorable performances have been performing for the Bobby Jones Gospel Youth Explosion (BET), the Bethune-Cookman College Festival of Voices, Florida Vocal Association Choral Festival, Sistrunk Negro Spirituals Celebration, Fort Lauderdale Winterfest, and the NBC6 Winter television program. The M.H.S. Chorus currently has several ensembles including Varsity Singers, Chorale, Men's Ensemble, Women's Ensemble, "Faith" Gospel Ensemble, as well as liturgical dancers and a house band. We are also proud to say that we have an active membership of over 100 singers! As we continue to make history at Miramar High School, we will never forget the grounds on which our organization was founded. |
